Sydney – Melbourne en première classe

Pour se rendre à Melbourne, nous avons décidé de refaire une relocation (cette fois-ci, nous allions la rapporter à l’heure). Comme tu ne choisis pas ton véhicule, nous avons eu toute une surprise en voyant un énorme campervan Mercedez avec douche, toilette, écran plat et télévision digitale! Vanessa, la championne de la conduite de véhicules lourds, se mérite une médaille pour avoir manœuvré cette énorme bête dans les deux plus grosses villes d’Australie!

To get to Melbourne, we decided to do a relocation again (this time we were going to bring it back on time). Since you don’t get to choose your vehicle, we had quite a surprise when we saw a massive deluxe Mercedez campervan with shower, toilet, flat screen and digital TV! Vanessa, the champion of heavy vehicle driving, deserves a medal after driving that giant in Australia biggest cities!

Day 5 & Day 6 : Proserpine to Cairns

La fin du road trip qui approche, nous avons passé la dernière nuit sur la magique « Magnetic Islands ». On aurait dû prévoir un peu plus de temps que ce qui était planifié, parce que l’île est plus grande que ce qu’on imaginait et elle semblait receler de petits endroits perdus à découvrir. On à quand même réussi à bien profiter de la partie de Horseshoe Bay … un petit cocktail à la main, la musique « live » qui joue en arrière plan et le regard rivé sur le plage pour le coucher de soleil… un moment de pur bonheur. Le lendemain, nous avons repris le traversier et après un peu d’exploration dans Townsville, il était temps de se diriger sur la destination finale Cairns.
Là vous pensez que je peux mettre un point à cette partie du voyage et tout ce finit bien … mais ça serait de 1) mal nous connaître, et de 2) pas assez excitant. Alors ce qui c’est passé c’est qu’on devait retourner le campervan à 15:00 … sauf que nous on s’est dit que c’étais flexible … mais par courtoisie, on les a appelé pour leur dire vers quelle heure on pensait arriver et c’est à ce moment que l’agent mentionne une des clauses du contrat de relocation, que j’avais bien sûr signé sans prendre le temps de lire, qui dit qu’une surcharge de 150$ s’applique pour un retour après 15:00 et que si on le rapporte après 16:00, la compagnie garde notre dépôt de … 1000$ !!!! … Pour vous mettre en contexte il était 14:45 et on était à environ 120km de Cairns … Faque vous pouvez comprendre que le dernier 120km de paysage on l’a vu assez rapidement et qu’on a été la cause de plusieurs cas de rage au volant … Notre heure d’arrivé à la compagnie de location fût exactement 4:17 … À suivre!

Mais non je ne vais pas vous laisser dans le stress qu’on a vécu … On a discuté avec une (veuillez insérer méga-gentille et ultra-compréhensible) agente le lendemain matin et on s’en est sorti avec seulement une charge de 75$ pour une journée supplémentaire! Ouufff!

The end of the road trip is near, and we spent the last night on the magic Magnetic Island. We probably should have plan more time over there, since we didn’t realize how big the island was and we didn’t know about all the little secret spots just waiting to be discovered and explored. Oh well, we still enjoyed the Horseshoe Bay part … a colorful cocktail in one hand, live music playing in the background, looking over the sunset … I don’t think it can get much better than this. In the morning, we took the ferry back to Townsville and after a little exploration we were on our way to our final destination: Cairns.
If you think I would put a period here and that we had a happy ending, you’re just wrong for two important reasons: 1. this is not the way we roll and 2. that would be way too boring! So what happened is that we were suppose to return the campervan by 3:00pm and we decided that it was just an approximate time … but still we were kind enough to give them a call to let them know at what time we thought we would be arriving. At that moment the kind agent (sarcasm) mentioned one of the clauses of our relocation contract, that I obviously signed without reading, that if you return the vehicle after 3:00pm the penalty is 150$ and if it’s after 4:00pm … they keep your bond … of a 1000$! To give you an idea, it was 2:45pm and we still had about 120km to reach the car rental company … I guess you can imagine that we briefly saw the last 120km and we potentially caused several road rage cases … we finally arrived … at 4:17 … To be continued!

Don’t worry, I won’t leave you on a stressful note (like the night we had to go through!) The next morning, we talked to the most genuine and understandable customer service agent (of the world, she honestly deserves some sort of title) and we managed to get away with only a charge for an extra day of 75$! Ouuuffff!

Day 1 : Brisbane to Tin Can Bay

1er Août 2012, jour 1 de notre grande expédition australienne. Peter « the silly sausage » de la compagnie de location de campervan nous a remis les clés et nous voilà sur la route, la pédale dans le tapis et la musique à fond en chantant à gorge déployée. Premier arrêt, Glass House Mountain, après un arrêt à l’observatoire, nous sommes prêtes pour l’ascension de mont Ngungun (essaye de le dire à voix haute sans rire). En montant, on s’est amusée à prendre des photos dans une cave avant d’apprécié l’incroyable vue au sommet. Bien sûr, au même moment que Vanessa mentionne à quel point cette partie du sentier est facile, je m’enfarge dans mes propres pieds et je profite de l’occasion pour m’éclater le genou … bravo championne! Mais bon après quelques jujubes le pire était passé. Nous passons notre première nuit à Tin Can Bay puisque tout était complet à Rainbow Beach. Nous sommes au lit tôt pour être en forme demain!

August 1st 2012, day 1 of our great Australian journey. Peter aka The Silly Sausage from the campervan rental compagny gave us the key, we turned up the music and we were ready to hit the road singing our heart out! First stop, the Glass House Mountain lookout point. After a quick glance, we were ready to tackle Mt Ngungun (I mean come on, just try to pronounce it without laughing!). The trail open up on a cave, that we use for a little photo shoot and the lookout on the top of the mountain is simply mind blowing. Obviously, my clumsy self had to trip on absolutely nothing and blow up my knee at the exact moment Vanessa was saying how easy this part of the trail was compare to the rest. Nurse Vaness fed me candy and I felt much better already! We are spending the first night in Tin Can Bay as all the campgrounds were full in Rainbow Beach. Going to bed early to be ready for another big day ahead of us!
